Common questions about individual therapy
-
You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected therapy can offer meaningful support and help you to understand yourself more deeply. Many people jump into therapy to strengthen their relationships, make sense of past experiences, navigate life transitions, or build greater emotional well-being.
If you’re even a little curious about how you could benefit from therapy, it may be a worthwhile to take the next step and reach out. My practice offers a free 15-minute phone consultation as a gentle, no-pressure way to explore whether my approach feels like a good fit for you and your goals.
-
The therapy process begins with an intake session in the format you prefer (virtual or in-person). The intake session is a two-way conversation and an opportunity for you to see if my practice feels like a good fit for your needs. During this time, you’ll have the space to share more about what prompted you to reach out. My goal is for you to feel heard and respected. You’ll welcome to share as much or as little as feels right. We’ll talk about what you’re hoping to gain from therapy—whether that’s relief from anxiety, healing from past experiences, improving relationships, support with neurodivergence or chronic illness, improved emotional regulation, or simply feeling more like yourself.
There is no pressure to have everything figured out! Many people come in feeling unsure or overwhelmed, and that’s completely okay. By the end of our time together, you should have a clearer sense of how we can work together moving forward.

There’s no one-size-fits-all timeline in therapy. Your journey will be as unique as you are.
Some people benefit from short-term therapy (typically 6–12 sessions) when they’re focusing on a specific goal, such as navigating a life transition, developing tools for anxiety, or strengthening a particular skill. Others find that longer-term therapy (several months to a year or more) better supports deeper healing—especially when working through complex trauma, long-standing patterns, neurodivergence, chronic illness, or relationship challenges. Many people also choose periodic “maintenance” sessions even after reaching their initial goals to help stay on track.
Healing isn’t linear. There may be times of meaningful progress and times when things feel slower or more challenging. What matters most is finding a pace that feels safe and sustainable for you.
We will regularly check in together about your progress, what’s working, and whether any adjustments to our approach or frequency would be helpful. My role is to support you in making informed, empowered choices that align with your needs, values, and life circumstances.
-
The short answer, is no. Therapists don’t give direct advice in the form of “do this” or “don’t do that.” Instead, I’ll offer you gentle insight, thoughtful feedback, and practical tools to help you reconnect with your true self and make choices that feel right for you.
I see therapy as a true partnership. I walk beside you as a supportive guide, helping you reflect, explore patterns, and move forward in a grounded, compassionate way. Together, we create space for you to feel more empowered and connected to yourself.

Feeling safe, respected, and trulyheard is at the heart of effective therapy. If something doesn’t feel quite right in our work together (whether it’s a difference in communication style, pace, or overall fit) please know that it’s not only okay, but encouraged to bring it up!
Sometimes a simple, honest conversation can help us adjust and strengthen our collaboration. Other times, it may become clear that another therapist would be a better match for what you need. I will support you fully and provide you with a few highly-recommended options for other clinicians if helpful. My priority is always your well-being and finding the right fit for your healing journey.
Finding someone you connect with is one of the most important early steps.

Progress in therapy looks different for everyone and often unfolds in its own gentle rhythm. While it’s not always a straight line, here are some signs to be aware of when considering wether or not you’re making the progress you want to see.
Greater self-awareness and understanding of your patterns, needs, and strengths
Feeling more emotionally regulated and/or less overwhelmed by daily stressors
Improved relationships with yourself and/or with others
Increased clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of agency in your life
Making meaningful, sustainable changes that align with your values and goals
Better able to notice and manage triggers as they arise in day-to-day life
Old trauma memories or patterns having less power over how you experience and interpret the present
It’s important to remember that therapy doesn’t always feel “good” in the moment. Sometimes the work can feel uncomfortable as it brings old pain or protective patterns to the surface, but this is often a natural part of healing.
If you’re gradually feeling more connected to yourself, more compassionate toward your experiences, and moving toward the life you want, even in small ways, you’re likely on the right path. We’ll regularly check in together about how our work feels for you and adjust as needed.

I want to commend you for putting in the effort and exploring this possibility for yourself. Finding a therapist to work with can be overwhelming, regardless if you’re new to the process or just looking to jump in again.
If you’re considering working together, I warmly invite you to reach out by using the Contact Form. This carefully designed form starts us off on the right foot by allowing me to review the details you provide along with verifying any insurance benefits you may be looking to use.
I typically respond to new inquiries within 1–2 business days. You will receive an email outlining next steps along with an invite to the Client Portal. Within the portal you’ll be prompted to complete a few New Client Documents and provide any additional demographic information required for insurance processing and completion of your file.
Once this is complete, I’ll reply with an Estimation of Benefits vie the portal messenger to inform you of your financial responsibility for sessions (wether you will have a set co-pay or need to meet a deductible amount before your policy coverage begins).
Once you confirm, you’ll be cleared to view current availability and self-schedule your intake session within the Client Portal.
